Hulk Hogan, the most well known professional wrestler in the world, has joined Total Nonstop Action Wrestling at age 56. It is considered TNA's most historic moment.

After promoting the announcement all night long on TNA Impact, finally Hulk Hogan’s plans in TNA were revealed. At a press conference, Eric Bischoff introduced Hogan. Hogan then announced that the TNA president Dixie Carter was now his new business partner. His ambition, he said, was to make TNA the top pro wrestling organization, and that TNA was the future of professional wrestling.

Hulk Hogan Says He Will Help TNA Become Number One

Hogan feels that he is the man to help TNA overtake other wrestling organizations, of which World Wrestling Entertainment is the only obvious opponent. He stated that he did not know what was going to happen, but that he would be helping the organization and give it a push into a new direction so that it could become the number one professional wrestling organization in the country.

Hulk Hogan as Pop Culture Icon

Hulk Hogan began his climb to fame in the World Wrestling Federation in the 1980s. He became known not just in the wrestling world but also in television and movies. After he retired from wrestling he got a reality show called Hogan Knows Best. He has recently come out with a book called My Life Outside the Ring. As Dixie Carter noted, his presence in TNA will surely get attention.

TNA is the Place for Older Wrestling Stars

TNA seems to be a haven for many wrestling stars that are in their older years (forty-plus) such as Sting, Scott Steiner, Booker T, Kevin Nash, Mick Foley and Kurt Angle. Many were mainstays in the World Wrestling Federation or World Championship Wrestling (WCW). At age 56, Hulk Hogan would fit in very well there whether as a wrestler or in any other capacity.

What Will Hulk Hogan Do in TNA?

Will Hulk Hogan succeed in helping TNA to overtake the WWE in popularity and respectability? Only time will tell, but it is worth considering that all WWE programming has better ratings than TNA’s shows. However, with arguably the biggest pro wrestling star of all time in TNA’s organization, that may change.

But given the popularity and relative youth of most of WWE’s stars compared to the ones in TNA, it seems premature for Hogan to declare that TNA is the future of wrestling when, as noted, many of their stars are above the age of 40, and in some cases are even 50 years old. One wonders if Hogan will ever be welcome in WWE again now that he has promised to help conquer them.
