Jeff Jarrett - King of the Mountain DVD ReviewA Career Retrospective of TNA’s Originator and Perennial Champion
Jeff Jarrett - King of the Mountain is a four disc look at a talented wrestler turned promoter. It's also a comprehensive TNA starter kit.
During the mid 90s wrestler Jeff Jarrett had a great run as a heel in the then WWF now WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment). He won the Intercontinental title several times and had an entertaining feud with, Razor Ramon AKA Scott Hall. But it’s unlikely if you saw Jarrett back then, acting cowardly in his matches and strutting to the ring in preposterous illuminated outfits, that you would have selected him as a future wrestling mogul. Now, more than two decades later Jarrett is not only a top in ring star for TNA wrestling but he’s the co-founder, vice president and a top creative force in the company as well. Jeff and his father Jerry created Total Nonstop Action back in 2002. It has gone on to become the number two wrestling promotion in North America behind only WWE. The currently available, Jeff Jarrett – King of the Mountain DVD release functions as a comprehensive history of not only the title figure but the TNA wrestling promotion as well. Jarrett’s Story in His Own WordsOn all four discs Jeff Jarrett sit down interview segments separate the matches. You’ll quickly find Jarrett has a lot to say about the wrestling business and his place in it. He generally comes off as sincere and forthcoming but there are times when his continual touting of the merits of TNA makes you feel like you’re watching an infomercial. Much better are the segments where Jarrett reveals details of heated dealings with WWE mega mogul Vince McMahon and the bosses of the now defunct WCW (World Championship Wrestling). The Tennessee born and bred wrestling star also sheds more than a few tears in describing how the May 2007 loss of his wife, Jill, to cancer has marked him as both a man and a wrestler. Jeff Jarett in the RingThere are five bonus matches on disc four which show a skinny, teenaged Jeff Jarrett getting his start in his dad’s small wrestling promotion in the late 80s. The two dozen other bouts in this collection track Jeff Jarrett’s starring role in the launch and growth of TNA from the inaugural pay-per-view event in June of 2002 through to October 2008’s Bound for Glory event. You’ll see all of Jarrett’s wrestling trademarks; his cocky in ring strut, the guitar shot to an opponents head and his “The Stroke” finishing move. You’ll also see the self-professed King of the Mountain in action with almost all of the top names on the TNA roster past and present. The Best King of the Mountain MatchesThis DVD set features an early TNA eight man tag-team match with Jeff Jarrett teaming up with the legendary “American Dream” Dusty Rhodes and the Road Warriors. There are two fast paced battles between Jarrett and "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles and a wild ladder match with current WWE superstar Jeff Hardy. Also included is the first ever pay-per-view collision between Jarrett and many time world champion and former Olympic gold medalist Kurt Angle. The best of the best may be the King of the Mountain clash from 2006’s Slammiversary with TNA stars Jarrett, Christian Cage, Abyss, Ron “The Truth” Killings and Sting all going for NWA world heavyweight belt.. Jarrett works so effectively as a heel in the match that the crowd seemingly wants to tear him apart by the time it’s all over. For capturing the competitive essence and performance style of not only an accomplished wrestler but an entire company, Jeff Jarrett - King of the Mountain is worth seeking out. The sheer number and variety of the matches will give anyone new to TNA a pretty clear picture what the promotion is about. There are also more than a few epic contests you’ll want to watch more than once.
